Bella Abzug Park is a fundamental element of the new Hudson Yards district. As the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation official maintenance and operations partner for Bella Abzug Park, HYHK maintains and programs the Park year-round providing much needed open space for area residents, workers and visitors, the Park is the green center at the heart of this burgeoning vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood.
Bella Abzug
Bella Abzug (July 24, 1920 - March 31, 1998), was an American lawyer, politician, and social activist, and a prominent figure in the women's movement for equality. Abzug and several other leading feminists founded the National Women's Political Caucus, dedicated to supporting women who seek to take office at all levels of government. She advocated for labor rights, tenants' rights, and civil liberties cases during her time as a lawyer. When elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Abzug advocated for women's rights and withdrawal from Vietnam.

Bella Abzug spearheaded a law that enabled married women to have credits cards in their own names (1974)
In 1975, Abzug introduced the first gay rights bill in Congress
In 1977, Abzug chaired the first National Women's Conference
Abzug coined the phrase: "This woman's place is in the house - the House of Representatives."
Abzug helped organize and advocate for the Women's Strike for Peace and the National Women's Political Caucus, the Women's Environmental Development Organization, and the Commission for Women's Equality
